Technical Sales Engineer

Main Purpose of Position:

A vacancy has arisen for a Technical Sales Engineer based at our European headquarters in Dartford, Kent working in the Command and Control Solutions Team. The role requires technical and commercial support of a sales manager based in the UK, with responsibility for the EMEA territory. The principle activity will be the preparation of technical proposals for complete systems, comprising image networking and audio visual. The role would suit an energetic self-starter, with a good technical background, excellent written English and a close attention to detail.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

1.      Understand system requirements from sales staff, a tender document or a discussion with a client and prepare a detailed design to meet these requirements

2.      Prepare a costing document identifying component products, labour and expenses

3.      Prepare technical quotations or full responses to client requirements or RFP / ITT documents

4.      Provide technical support to sales staff

5.      Provide telephone and e-mail support to the sales force and direct support to clients

6.      Build a library of template proposals around particular products or system types, to include “stock material” for proposal categories such as company profiles, previous experience, team member CV’s, method statements, etc.

7.      Maintain fast access materials (such as spreadsheets populated with common product offerings) for generating rapid budgetary costing for prospective projects

8.      Organise demonstrations using control, processing and display products

9.      Engage in general support tasks (e.g. administration, arranging loans, shipments, exhibition support, fulfil literature requests, etc) as required by the sales team


Person Specification:

1.      Technical knowledge of IT, audio visual systems and computer networks

2.      Ability to understand complex requirements and logically disseminate into component parts

3.      Enthusiastic self starter with drive, energy and a ‘can-do’ winning attitude

4.      Strong written English and document formatting skills

5.      Good verbal communications skills / telephone manner

6.      Ability to draw schematics using PC packages (e.g. Visio, Corel). Familiarity with MS Office applications and MS Windows

7.      Ability to work to rigid time scales in a multi-project environment
