Company History
Electrosonic was founded in 1964. It currently employs over
300 people and has an annual turnover of $75 million. The company
has always been among the first to apply new technology; and
here are just some of the milestones in its history.
1964
One of the first to manufacture automatic thyristor dimmers.
1965
Among the first to develop electronic dissolve units for slide
projection.
1968
The first to make all-electronic programming systems for mixed
media shows using multiplexed data on magnetic audio-tape
1970 – 1976
Introduced AV Presentation Units, most notably the very popular
ES3601 and ES3609 units.
1983
One of the first to develop electronic scene-setting systems
for architectural lighting control.
1984
Among the first to achieve practical, solid-state, audio replay
systems for museum and exhibition displays.
1986
The first to adapt the new memory architectures being developed
for the computer and optical products markets to videowall image
processing applications.
1988
Created the most practical, flexible videowall programming and
image processing systems with the PicBloc product range.
1992
Built the world's biggest videowall with 850 monitors for EXPO
92 Seville – where Electrosonic equipment was used in
35 pavilions controlling over 2,000 video screens and 500 slide
projection screens.
1995
Started developing customized MPEG compressed video systems.
Delivered the compression and copying workstations for Steven
Spielberg's "Survivors of the Shoah" project.
1998
Devised new algorithms for electronic image resizing that form
the basis of Electrosonic's high-resolution VECTOR
product range.
1999
Winner of AV Technology Awards for Systems Company of the Year
and Excellence in the Use of Videowall.
2000
Introduced High Definition video servers for public display
applications. First customers included the Kentucky Derby Museum,
the American Museum of National History, NASA, Terra Mittica
(Spain) and the Hermitage Rooms at Somerset House (London).
2001
Launched Electrosonic Director meeting room processor to enhance
the Smartroom complete room installations.
2002
Winner of AV Technology Awards for Installation of the Year
(Thinktank at Millennium
Point in Birmingham UK).
2003
Winner of Museums and Heritage Award for Excellence Use of Technology
(for Imperial War Museum North,
UK). Winner of three awards at the very first Archi-tech AV
Awards, organized by the ICIA and Archi-tech magazine (for Imperial
War Museum North and Thinktank).
Winner of Service Company of the Year and Systems Company of
the Year at the UK AV Awards ceremony.
2004
Electrosonic celebrates our 40th Anniversary year by winning
no less than four top awards at the UK AV Awards ceremony -
Systems Company of the Year, Service Company of the Year, Installation
of the Year (for Space Park
Bremen) and the coveted Grand Prix Award. Winner of another
top award at the Archi-tech AV Awards for our installation at
The National Constitution
Center in Philadelphia. Audio Visual Consultants (AVC) of
Edinburgh became a member of the Electrosonic Group. The UK
Systems Division gains Silver Level Status as a Certified Audio-Visual
Solutions Provider (CAVSP).
2005
Electrosonic UK achieves SAFEcontractor
accreditation, a health and safety scheme for contractors. Christie
Digital Systems of Cypress, California gives Electrosonic it's
award Integrator of the Year for 2004. Electrosonic once again
scoops four top awards at the UK AV Awards ceremony - Systems
Company of the Year, Service Company of the Year, Business Installation
of the Year (for Barclays) and Consumer Installation of the
Year (for The Churchill Museum).
The VN-QUANTUM and VN-MATRIX
products are launched. Electrosonic launches Infonet,
an intranet service developed especially for Electrosonic staff
working on outsourced service sites. Electrosonic signed a joint
venture agreement with Scharff Weisberg Systems Integration
Inc. creating Electrosonic New York. A new regional office was
opened in China, and Electrosonic Systems Inc. in Burbank acquires
design company AME, creating a new centre of Systems Design
excellence in California.
2006
Electrosonic once again wins four top awards at the UK AV Awards
ceremony - Systems Company of the Year, Service Company of the
Year, Business Installation of the Year (for the Highways
Agency) and the prestigious Grand Prix Award for AV Company
of the Year. A new Electrosonic subsiduary opens in Sweden and
new Design Consulting and Managed Media Services Divisions are
set up in the US.
2007
A new regional office opens in Dubai. Electrosonic wins an InAVate
Award for its installation at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.
At the UK AV Awards Electrosonic is announced as Service Company
of the Year for the fifth year running and is also awarded Business
Installation of the Year for the fourth year running.
