National Harbor

National Harbor is a waterfront destination located on 300 acres of the scenic Potomac River in Prince George’s County, MD, complete with hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment. Working with the Project team led by Bob Weis Design Island, Electrosonic Design Consulting developed a sophisticated, networked entertainment media system, providing audiovisual and control capabilities to accommodate National Harbor’s multiple attractions.

The system was designed to provide distributed audio background music and soundscape to the National Harbor piers, Harborwalk, and American Way. LED lighting for illuminating banners on light poles and trees was synchronized with the soundscape to provide a truly immersive experience.

The outdoor theater venue at National Harbor is a flexible performance space that supports audio, theatrical lighting systems, and a large 30,000 ANSI Lumen HD projection system. This theater was built to meet the demands of theatrical productions, presentations, conferences, music events, and movies under the stars during warm months.

An extensive fiber optic LAN network was designed and implemented to provide control and synchronization flexibility to the audio, video, control, and lighting elements. A portable rack system was also provided complete with a digital mixer and self-powered speakers, allowing performers to set up small events around the harbor including restaurant, retail, and special event areas. Connection points were provided to allow the portable system to be networked with the main system infrastructure, which includes signal processing and speakers.
