Multi Image Display Processor

VN-QUANTUM is a radical new processor for integrating many video and computer graphic images onto display walls.

Centralized monitoring of high value assets such as networks, plant, utility and transport infrastructure, or surveillance of public areas generates huge quantities of image data. VN-QUANTUM organizes and presents this data on high resolution displays, to create a highly effective visual decision-support tool.

Each VN-QUANTUM unit is housed in a 6U 19" rack mount frame. This can accept a combination of up to 168 video inputs, 28 UXGA outputs (at 24 bits), and an unlimited number of RGB sources. Each display output can show up to 64 source windows with a real time 60Hz update rate.

Aside from these impressive figures, what is it that makes VN-QUANTUM such an effective solution for large screen image display? Simply put, it delivers a unique combination of source capacity, image quality, system stability and network integration options.

Source capacity

Each VN-QUANTUM video input card provides 12 composite or S-Video inputs (14 cards may be fitted in each frame). A dedicated image bus provides more than 10Gbps of constant bandwidth through the frame. If images need to be down-scaled, this is performed on input cards; up-scaling is performed on output cards: this approach further optimizes use of the image bus. In VN-QUANTUM, video inputs are always maintained at a 50 or 60Hz update rate.

RGB inputs, acquired as analog or DVI up to UXGA or WUXGA (1920x1200), are delivered to VN-QUANTUM over a Gigabit IP network. This dramatically reduces cabling and source distribution costs for new installations, yet is still compatible with existing analog infrastructure. Proprietary lossless compression ensures security, image quality and minimal loading of the processor. Each VN-QUANTUM can show at least 20 high performance RGB sources simultaneously, or many more with frame rate trade-offs.

Image quality

Once acquired, video is deinterlaced to a full resolution 4:2:2 50/60Hz frame. Acknowledging that not all sources are perfect, VN-QUANTUM will lock onto signals as low as 20% of intended amplitude. Scaling is done using the latest generation of Electrosonic's patented convolver technology, developed from the widely deployed VECTOR processor. This ensures that no image detail is lost as the size is changed. RGB sources are maintained at a 24bit color depth irrespective of resolution. DVI inputs and outputs eliminate noise.

System stability

For 24/7 operation, VN-QUANTUM incorporates stability features that genuinely improve system up-time, rather than unnecessary gimmicks often seen. The greatest vulnerability in any PC hosted system is the operating system. VN-QUANTUM is able to monitor for operating systems problems (including crashes), and re-boot just the parts needed: video images continue to display. It dispenses with hard disks altogether (making RAID arrays unnecessary) using solid state memory instead. The operating system is write-protected, allowing rapid recovery from virus attack. PSU's and fans are hot-pluggable.

Network integration

VN-QUANTUM can either be fully integrated with, or completely segregated from, a client's network. VN-COMMANDER control software, for designing and selecting display layouts, supports single or multiple operator control. Simple scene selection clients with user access control are also available.

These strengths make VN-QUANTUM ideal for surveillance, presentation and visualization applications in traffic, security, military and process control environments.
