New Global Command Centre Helps Barclays Deliver an Excellent Customer Service

Overview

Radbroke Hall is the site of Barclays Technology Centre, a long established campus employing over 3500 people. The centre is in a state of continuous development in response to changes in customer needs and the technology required to meet them. Its latest development is a new Global Command Centre, which was opened by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne in December 2014. Detailed AV systems design and the complete AV systems integration and installation were carried out by Electrosonic.

Challenge

The project arose as a result of Barclays wanting to bring disparate teams together in one location to enhance collaboration and speed up the resolution of incidents. Barclays required a system that is easy to use and suitable for 24/7 operation. It would need to give them complete flexibility across three videowalls, so that any data source could be sent to any screen across the array. Added challenges were a very tight time scale of just 8-12 weeks and a strict budget to adhere to.

Solution

Electrosonic provided three videowalls in which each display has its own locally sited scaler. This arrangement eliminates any problems with cable lengths, allows standardisation on CAT 5e cabling and simplifies making any changes that may be required in the future. To help Barclays agree procedures Electrosonic created “storyboards” showing how the system could work and then created a bespoke programme to achieve a highly flexible, intuitive and user friendly system. The largest of the videowalls is a 3x9 array of 46-inch LCDs and this is flanked by two smaller 2x5 arrays.

The installation also included two incident rooms, one meeting room and a break-out area with videoconferencing facilities and an X-Box Kinect.

Impact

The AV system gives Barclays the utmost functionality, reliability and value for money as possible, while its ease of use reduces mistakes and increases productivity. The new collaboration spaces allow teams, wherever they are based to easily communicate with each other and resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. Barclays has chosen to utilise the technology at other locations
around the world to enhance their overall business efficiency, resulting in a greater experience for their customers.  

The installation’s success has been recognised by two industry awards from AV Magazine and InAVate for ‘Control Room Project of the Year’.
