INTRODUCTION

Meet Bugs (and Daffy) is a scheduled show that combines interactive multimedia content with live performances from some of the audience’s favorite Loony Tunes characters. 

The audience takes a backstage tour, meeting in a themed room featuring a large-scale ‘Charact-O-Matic’ screen that displays images driven by interaction with selected members of the audience. Back on the main stage, a large screen is used to project images of Loony Tunes characters and support interaction with the audience. 

Electrosonic partnered with Thinkwell and Smart Monkeys to bring the concept to reality, providing technology design consulting, system integration, speciality audio and show control solutions for this engaging performance.

OVERVIEW

Meet Bugs (and Daffy) uses technology to create a fun packed interactive show that fully engages the young audience. The show brings together costumed actors who interact with the audience and encourage them to participate in the live show. 

On the main stage, a small screen inside a television set introduces the characters, cued by the presenter. A large screen at the back of the stage plays video content and supports audience interaction. 2-D and 3-D Loony Tunes animated characters appear on the screen as they are introduced. Selected members of the audience come up on stage and interact with the screen using gesture technology to activate multimedia images. 

In the backstage room, the ‘Charact-O-Matic’ screen gives audience members the opportunity to take on the role of Looney Tunes characters and interact with the screen to create images activated by giant pencils and other themed objects. 

Concealed speakers on the stage and in the backstage room replay character dialog and customized sound effects to accompany the action scenes on stage.

The activation of the multimedia content is managed by a show control system that can be integrated with Smart Monkeys’ Parkwide Control System for centralized management.

CHALLENGE

The main technical challenge was to integrate the interactive elements with the live performance so that audience participation in the show was seamless. The two main screens had to be programmed to trigger the correct content when the presenter or the audience member activated it. The control system had to manage audio, video, lighting, animatronics, special effects and interactive elements for the show and integrate with the Parkwide Control System.

SOLUTION

Electrosonic developed a show control system based on the Medialon Manager, which is integrated with Smart Monkey’s ISAAC platform that provides parkwide control for all attractions. 

The props used by the audience to trigger content on the screens feature triggering technology to activate themed multimedia images, audio and special effects. To programme and schedule the content, Electrosonic worked with the creative team to establish timing, the functioning of every device and the triggering of every cue.
