When properly leveraged, audiovisual (AV) technology is at the core of most highly effective collaboration and communications efforts in today’s digital world. After all, AV technology has the inherent ability to provide clarity when delivering messages, whether the participants are in the same room or thousands of miles apart.
In the business world, AV-enhanced collaboration and communication efforts can prove instrumental in keeping teams on track, and constantly innovating. In the education sector, the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate ultimately determines the effectiveness of the learning environment.
The relationship between the educator and learner is crucial, especially for deep learning. This is especially true with the new generation of learners. After all, these are learners who have always had access to information and statistics show they are heavy consumers of content. Much like product consumers the ability to deliver an experience contributes in a significant way to building the type of relationship needed for trust to thrive.
The ability to visually display content clearly has never been so important. Specifically, 45% of consumers would abandon content that’s displaying poorly on their current device, according to this report on Forbes. “Optimizing for user experience becomes key when you consider the variety of devices customers use to consume content.”
Today’s educators need to be able to connect to learner by creating and leveraging a true digital environment. What does this mean? Being able to seamlessly send high definition content to various display technologies (smartphones, interactive displays, LED displays, LCD displays, etc.). Of course, the ability to seamlessly send to these display technologies is meaningless without first generating meaningful content that will engage or intrigue the learner. If content generation is the educator’s responsibility, this means equipping them with high quality video cameras and microphones. Remember this is a generation who has been surrounded by multimedia content since birth.
Audio design is equally important. Educators need to be able to access an array of audio options including a classroom sound system using strategically positioned wireless speakers as well as the ability to send clear signals to a learner’s personal Bluetooth speakers. These are all key components to delivering the experience today’s learner desires. Which approach to use depends heavily on the space utilized for learning. In some instances, a poor physical environment makes targeting the personal speakers as the only viable choice.
Looking ahead, the widespread inclusion of augmented and virtual reality will soon play a crucial role in keeping the learner engaged. Again, the goal is to create a learning environment where the educator can deliver a truly immersive experience – the type of experience that keeps the learner asking for more.
